Robot Monster Army Post Exclusive Live Track

Robot Monster Army, the brainchild of ex-Wargasm frontman Bob Mayo, have posted an exclusive live track on the RMA's official Myspace page. 'Break Every Bone (Live)' is one of 3 tracks that will appear on the forthcoming Strange Angel E.P., the second release from Robot Monster Army.

Robot Monster Army's self-titled debut album was released in June on YAAG Records and is currently available via all major online music outlets. The 70's-inspired album features performances by several members of Boston's metal elite: former members of Wargasm, Only Living Witness & Gang Green appear, and current members of Steel Assassin, Bad Karma and Meliah Rage also contributed.

"2 of the songs on the E.P. are basically left-overs from the first album", says Mayo. "It's an outtake from the album sessions (Strange Angel), the b-side to the 'She's the Future' single (Animal Heart/Machine Head), and also a live track (Break Every Bone). I don't remember much about the live one..."

Each Robot Monster Army release will benefit a worthy cause; a portion of the proceeds generated from the Strange Angel E.P. will benefit Autism Speaks, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families (www.autismspeaks.org).

ROBOT MONSTER ARMY ALBUM OUT NOW!!!

ROBOT MONSTER ARMY ALBUM OUT NOW!!!

Wargasm frontman Bob Mayo's Robot Monster Army project has recently released its debut album, currently available from all major online digital music outlets including iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, and many more. 'Robot Monster Army' features performances by members of several renowned Boston-area metal bands, including Meliah Rage, Only Living Witness, Steel Assassin, Triphammer, Temporary Insanity, Bad Karma and more. Mayo's old cohorts in Wargasm also appear.

'Robot Monster Army' track listing:

1.        Flame On!

2.        Halfway

3.        Red Planet

4.        Gazelle

5.        Your Dog's Teeth

6.        Nerve Damage/Nerve Ending

7.        She's The Future

8.        We're All Going To Hell

9.        On The Moon

All of the material was written solely by Mayo. "The music has much more of a late-70's hard rock vibe, it's not the thrash/power metal that I did with Wargasm", says Mayo, "because I wanted to pay tribute to the era that inspired me to play music... I wanted to make a metal record that sounds like it could have maybe come out in 1978. And with this collection of players, I mean the best of the best metal musicians from the New England area, it really rocks hard. I think it will surprise a lot of people."

Each Robot Monster Army release will benefit a worthy cause; a portion of the proceeds generated from the RMA debut will benefit Rawkstars, a non-profit organization that provides musical instruments and instruction to needy Boston-area kids (www.Rawkstars.org).

Watch Robot Monster Army's Myspace page (www.myspace/RobotMonsterArmy) for much more on the project, including merch, lyrics, artwork, credits, and info on future releases.

WARGASM member's ROBOT MONSTER ARMY album ready for release

Wargasm frontman Bob Mayo's Robot Monster Army project has recently wrapped up mixing its debut album, which should be available from all major digital music outlets in just a few weeks.

'Robot Monster Army' features performances by members of several renowned Boston metal bands, including Meliah Rage, Only Living Witness, Formicide, Steel Assassin, Triphammer, Temporary Insanity, Bad Karma and more. Mayo's old cohorts in Wargasm also appear.

'Robot Monster Army' track listing:

1.        Flame On!

2.        Halfway

3.        Red Planet

4.        Gazelle

5.        Your Dog's Teeth

6.        Nerve Damage/Nerve Ending

7.        She's The Future

8.        We're All Going To Hell

9.        On The Moon/Moon Rock

All of the material was written solely by Mayo. "The music has much more of a late-70's vibe than anything Wargasm did", says Mayo, "because I wanted to pay tribute to that era. I wanted to make a metal record that sounds like it could have maybe come out in 1978. And with this collection of players, I mean the best of the best metal musicians from the New England area, it really rocks hard. I think it will surprise a lot of people."

In early February, RMA released the first single from the album, "She's the Future", and all proceeds generated from the single benefit Rawkstars (www.Rawkstars.org), a non-profit organization that provides musical instruments and instruction to needy Boston-area children. Information on downloading the single via iTunes and other on-line digital outlets can be found on the RMA's myspace page, where tracks from the upcoming album are available for streaming.

A second charity release, due this summer, will feature three non-album tracks. The "Strange Angel" E.P. will benefit Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org). A CD version of the entire project is in the works as well, and will include the complete album plus the 3 E.P. tracks.

Watch Robot Monster Army's Myspace page (www.myspace/RobotMonsterArmy) for much more on the project, including the album's official release date, download information, lyrics, artwork, and credits.

WARGASM MEMBER ANNOUNCES CHARITY SINGLE

FINALLY

guys: I'm psyched to announce that the first release from this project, "She's The Future", is available for download as of today on iTunes (and many other online outlets); and also psyched to announce that every darn penny generated from the sale of this single will benefit jj's rawkstars non-profit, and therefore help kids get into music......

there's more coming obviously (like an entire album), but this is the first actual release, so I would like to use this occasion to thank everyone involved once again for their participation and their patience.

This press release went out minutes ago:

Wargasm frontman Bob Mayo's Robot Monster Army project has released the first single from its forthcoming debut album, "Robot Monster Army". WARGASM MEMBER TO RELEASE ALBUM

WARGASM MEMBER TO RELEASE ALBUM

Wargasm bassist/vocalist Bob Mayo's Robot Monster Army project has posted 2 rough mixes of songs from its' forthcoming debut release on the project's MySpace page. The entire album, plus 2 bonus tracks, will be available for download via iTunes and other on-line digital outlets in October.

Recorded at Red Devil Recording in Stoughton, Ma, Robot Monster Army features performances by members of several legendary Boston metal bands, including Meliah Rage, Only Living Witness, Gang Green, Formicide, Steel Assassin, Triphammer, Temporary Insanity, Bad Karma and more. Mayo's old cohorts in Wargasm also appear. A portion of the proceeds from the album will benefit Rawkstars, a non-profit organization that provides musical instruments and instruction to needy Boston-area children, and Autism Speaks, a non-profit dedicated to researching and spreading awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders.

While Wargasm are primarily known as Boston's premiere Thrash Metal band, having released 3 highly-acclaimed albums between 1988 and 1995, the 12 songs included on the Robot Monster Army CD offer up something decidedly different. "I hope the music has a late-70's metal vibe", says Mayo, who wrote all of the music and lyrics himself. "I got into music when I was around 14, in 1977-78. All of the records that inspired me as a musician came out then; after Punk happened, but before the NWOBHM. Classics by Judas Priest, UFO, Sabbath, Rainbow, AC/DC, Scorpions, BOC, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, Rush, Aerosmith, Budgie, Cheap Trick…That's the music in my bones, and that's the kind of stuff that came out when I started writing. So it's a little different than what people might expect from the players involved."

The entire project, including artwork posted on the project's MySpace page, has the look and sound of a re-issued 70's hard rock record, complete with 2 'bonus tracks'; one of them live. Live? Hmmm… "It wasn't actually recorded live; we just made it sound that way. I really wanted this to come across as a re-release of a late-70's rock album, with a couple of 'obscurities' added on to the re-master."

Of course, a live song would be impossible, as there is no actual band behind the R.M.A. project. Mayo states, "It's purely a studio thing. But I got to work with lots of my old friends from the 80's & 90's Boston scene; these guys are my best friends and the greatest group of musicians on earth. We all have similar musical roots, so everybody really shines on this material."

Wargasm's "Why Play Around" one of ten best Thrash albums ever

The Thrash Metal Guide, an online database chronicling all things Thrash Metal, has spoken:

"Why Play Around" is a triumphant album, one of the ten best thrash releases ever, pretty much the culmination of the whole scene (and 1988 was indeed the peak year for thrash metal); some of the finest thrash pieces are here, folks: "Wasteland", "Revenge", "Undead", "Humanoid", and all the rest. No more comments about a masterpiece like this.

We don't know much about the site or who runs it, but we couldn't find much to argue with here...

Thrash pioneers WARGASM reveal 20th Anniversary live plans, DVD release

Thrash pioneers WARGASM reveal 20th Anniversary live plans, DVD release

Boston's legendary Wargasm will be performing live at the Middle East in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 13th as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the release of their classic "Why Play Around?" album. The show will be recorded for future release as "Why Play Alive!" As with their 2004 reunion, the show is happening in conjunction with Rawkstars, a music education-based non-profit that benefits low income Boston area kids. Tickets can be purchased here: http://www.ticketmaster.com/artist/1220722

TartareanDesire.com American editor, Tony Belcher, recently caught up with Wargasm bassist/vocalist Bob Mayo for a rare interview, excerpted below.

Belcher: Since Thrash is back in a big way are the planets perhaps aligned for a more than casual reunion of Wargasm?

Mayo: We'll never be a band again in the same way we were from '85-'95, but as long as we're all still breathing, and we feel that there's something cool to do, we'll 're-activate' for this or that project. The 20th anniversary of Why Play Around is a no-brainer—we couldn't let that go by without celebrating it somehow. So there's a bunch of Wargasm stuff happening this year.

Belcher: What about the band's long-in-the-making live DVD?

Mayo: The DVD will definitely be out this summer. I actually just saw some raw footage from it today and it looks great. Beyond the entire '04 reunion show, we're including tons of live video from the European/US tours we did, and also the 'Dreadnaut Day' video… lots of archival stuff as extras. You can see a teaser for the DVD here:

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=2023417531

Belcher: What about any previously unreleased recordings?  Surely there are some such skeletons in the closet....

Mayo: We have 6 or 7 unfinished recordings that have been sitting around for years, and we'll be finishing them up sometime soon, as part of the 20th anniversary… Our 2 web sites, http://www.myspace.com/wargasm and http://www.wargasm.org/intro.html are currently being reworked, so those are the best places to stay in touch with everything that's going on with us this year. Eventually you will be able to get those songs, as well as other merchandise, through those sites.

Belcher: Are there additional plans to perhaps have the out of print, hard to find Wargasm back catalog reissued, too?

Mayo: We are researching the possibilities there, but we're not waiting around. For the anniversary of WPA?, we've decided to re-release that particular album in a different way: we're going to do a 20th anniversary show, play the songs from the record in sequence, record the show, and release a live version of the Why Play Around album. The show is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th at the Middle East in Cambridge, Ma. That's the same venue where we filmed the reunion show for the DVD, and once again the show is being produced & promoted in conjunction with Rawkstars, the music-based non-profit that we partnered with for the reunion show in '04. So if you weren't part of audience for the reunion show DVD, come down to this show and be on the "Why Play Alive!" CD.

12.23.06

WOW it's been 2+ years since last update. first off I would like to apologize for taking over two years to make this update, I have no excuse except that nothing has really been happening as of yet in the land of WARGASM. here is a recent Email I received from Rich.

"The DVD has been coming along slowly but surely. I actually got myself involved in producing another album, and that has been taking my time away from the GASM DVD, but I have recently started back into it. The band that I'm producing is Steel Assassin, If you don't know of them they were around in the early eighties. They had a Priest/Maiden/Saxon - early metal sound.

I used to roadie for them long before Gasm was doing it. They broke up in around ' 86, and recently, the original members (except for the singer) all reformed to write and record an album. They asked me to do it. They have some interest from some labels here and in Europe, so we are trying to sort that all out right now. Yeah, taking these things on is great, but it does interfere with the Gasm stuff. The way I look at it is the Gasm package will come out and it is going to be amazing!!"

As some of you may or may not know I created a myspace account for WARGASM back in February of 2005. The page URL is myspace.com/wargasm this is now where you will find MP3's for download and a message board dedicated to WARGASM!

Originally I was going to make this update in conjunction with the release of the DVD however due to the DVD taking a little longer to come out and others complaining that I never update the page, I felt it was high time to make an update to the page. I hope you all enjoy the new layout and content.

updates on this page include: NEWS, TONS OF PICTURES, FLYERS, SHIRTS, REVIEWS, PRESS, DISCOVERY, BIOGRAPHY & LINKS.

Unfortunately, wargasm_dvd@yahoo.com no longer works.

After a ten-year hiatus, Boston's thrash pioneers WARGASM will return to unleash their unique brand of power metal on Saturday, September 18 at the Middle East Club in Cambridge, Ma.

Billed as the "First Annual Rawkshow" , proceeds from the event will benefit the Boston-based non-profit organization, Rawkstars, Inc. , which offers music education programs for kids.

"We've been approached several times over the years about doing a reunion show and have discussed celebrating the band's history in a big way at some point", says WARGASM lead guitarist Rich Spillberg , "but never felt the scenario was perfect for us. That is, until now."

"Playing a show for Rawkstars at a venue like The Middle East was just too good to pass up. We'd been waiting for a good enough reason to get together again, and this is definitely it," says Bob Mayo , vocalist and bass player for the group. Mayo , who currently authoring a book about the early days of the now-legendary Boston metal scene, views this as a chance to get together with his old band mates one more time, while supporting an organization with an important mission.

"Music just about saved my life when I was younger; it helped me through some very difficult times," he says. "Who knows what I would have turned to if I didn't have my guitar? Every kid should have a chance to get involved in music. The First Annual Rawkshow isn't just about turning people on to WARGASM ; it's about turning kids onto making music in general. We can maybe affect someone's life and celebrate what music has done for us at the same time. That's amazing."

Tickets for the event are available through Ticketmaster at (617) 931-2000, by visiting Ticketmaster.com or by calling the Middle East box office at (617) 492-9181.

About Rawkstars, Inc. : Rawkstars, Inc. is a Massachusetts based, non-profit organization offering music education programs for kids. Rawkstars has three core offerings.
